Remix culture
I’m going to be a student this year! I just began the master program of digitale culture at University of Bergen. Most of my co-students are internationale students, and my teachers prefer english so i decided to write the bloggpost related to this in english.
so far there is a lot to absorb, and i think it is a lot of hard work to be done. The syllabus is great though, i even got syllabus from YouTube and TED.com.
I love that my (our) lecturers are able to use the information avalable online. Jill also make very solid bloggposts about the lectures she is going to have. This makes it easyer to go back and work with and remember things said during class.
For next time we got some tasks:
Make a blogg. -Done, i’ll just use my own. I added a new category so it will be easyer to find this material for co-students and others.
Sign up for Diigo.com -Done, my usernave is Sinobell. Diigo is simlar to Del.Icio.us, only more advanced. I have to install a toolbar for my browser (this used to be a bad thing to do). Then Diigo will let med highlight text, ad comments on a webpage, and share this with others. It sounds good, only my loveley machine kochenille, has quit on me, and i havent gotten a keycard for the studyhall for master students yet.
The last assigment is to find an example of remix culture. During clas Jill talked about an artist that had to projectors displaying to different stories of the creation of the world. When somone passed infromt of the prosjector, s/he would block the picture and it would be possible to read the other story. I was remined of a video, ‘my favoritte sci-fi movie‘. It i a clip that shows important parts of to movies, Star trek (2009) and Star wars movies. It is a very simple example of remix, it shows how fans combines video clip from the movies, and adding comments to make a point. The point beeing that the plot of the star trek movie is very simular to the star wars plot. This is a contribution to the (never ending) argument between star trek fans (trekkies) and star wars fans (jedi?), on who got the better universe.
EDIT: I just remembered this guy, Gisle, or ugress. He makes music and does a lot of remixes, and even get remixes of his remixes. I went to one of his concerts at landmark, and it was fabulous! He plays at his drum during the concert, playback of files, videos of different kind, on several screens, a lot of mix and clipping to make the video a part of the experience of his music. And also he uses a lot of light and smoke to set the mood. He also shares his music freely. I recoment downloading ‘reason to belive’ and ‘decepticon’. Had have a look at his performance at Ås
Note to self: learn how to embedd videos in blogg
As you mentioned remix of culture, I instantly came to think of the show robot chicken. Though the derivatives beeing more controversial than the original stuff, its very much using the same concepts.
Oh Thanks a lot! I love tip and hints.
Then i should tip you about a copyright documentary called “Good copy, bad copy”. The part about how the techno brega concept draws a concert crowd is especially interresting. Also DJ danger mouse talks about the grey album.
