In a student of Sience and technology studies, or Digitale Kultur/ Digital cultur.
Not every day is a good reading day. Some days I mostly want to curl up in the sofa, with cacao and watch movies, perhaps with my friends. No TED, no youtube, just comercial movie.

So i challange you : What hollywood (sci fi?) block buster can i watch to get a entertaining introduction to relevant concepts. Do include keywords or key questions, as long they don’t spoil the suprise. And i don’t have to be a hollywood movie, just something available in most videostores in norway, and intresting for non-students too. New comments to allready listet movies are also good.
The matrix: Can we be liberated from the technology/social structures/matrix we live in? Who do we know we are liberated?
Blade runner: Cyborg or human?
Ghost in the shell (manga) : Artificial Intelligens and Cyborgs in relation to humans.
Terminator (1,2,3 ++ ) keywords: technological determinism. skynet.
I allready got a contribution from Sissel Lenvik:
We live in public - not a hollywood blockbuster, but still a very interesting documentary.
1984 - — a classic.
A clockwork Orange - – disturbing film……….
12 monkeys – - a while since I saw this one, but I remember finding it very interesting at the time.
Kitchen stories /salmer fra kjøkkenet Reserchmethode, the absurdity of reserch, and how it can go wrong.
From Elisabeth:
¤ 2001: A Space Odyssey -
One theory of how life on Earth began. Be aware of the black rectangle!
For those who would like more straith forward story set in the same universe, go for the sequel: 2010
¤ THX 1138 -
George Lucas before Star Wars (I take it for granted that Star Wars is on the list)
Big Brother society, heavy conditioning of human behaviour.
¤ Logan’s Run -
Wonderful 70′s flick set in a future that favores youth and beauty – never allowing any of the citizens to become older than 30.
¤ The Island -
Clones, clones, clones and the rights of conscious clones…
¤ District 9 -
Discussion of class, immigration and integration set in a future where aliens live in closed off ghettos…
¤ Alien 1+2 -
This is great sci-fi action. Man’s against parasitic, fierce, and aesthetically appealing alien(s).
¤ Total Recall -
What is implacted memory and what is real? Arnold will show you the way…
¤ Minority Report -
Yes, it is a commercial ride, but has some elements worth considering: Surveillance of the mind, criminalizing intentions etc.
And look at that woosh-technology!
¤ The Man who Fell to Earth
Interested in some experimental art sci-fi from the 70′s? What David Bowie as an alien coming to earth in search of water…
¤ Spaceballs -
Comic relief. Spaceballs is a somewhat naive parody of Star Wars – Mel Brooks style, nicking elements from several other sci-fi flicks as well. I saw this at 13, and am still in love with it…
