Den heter så mye som “The network as a Space and Medium for Collaborative Interdiciplinery Art Practice”. Det foregår i morgen også. Programmet deres er her.

Research paper

Remixing is popular, and a lot of different people use it . However remixing is not just always appriciated with the original author/creator .

////How do a remix affect the original work?////

Fist of all i need to find out what art is, and the relation between the author and the work.
Then how the message is mediated throu the work to the reader. an exsample?

talk abiout the theory of art. criticing art only on it own therms will not be a problem with remixes, but in a XX perspective where art is connected to the world remixes would affect the original peice of work.

Then i need to talk about what a remix is. a definition? an exsample?

When the remix is done, there is a new message , delibrelatly or not. And a new author. and new assosiations are made by the new audience. history of remix.

So what can a remix do?

Change the assosiation to the remix, migth bleed on th the original work and exsample

The remix migth outshine the original work, making the original work out of date or unrelevant. A problem always in the world of art.

remix migth enhance the original work, like the mona lisa. the remixes is not relevant without the original art.

remixes are both loved and hated.

Lessing argues why remix must be leagal.
argues against? noone argues against remix, but against piracy

I have been thinking about my video a lot. The biggest problem it so make a point in under 5 minuttes that is relevant to what i work on, without beeing so spesific that only people who read the user manual to the video gets it.

So new idea:

Analyze of meme

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Why does people forward memes, more spesific this video.

This is the viedeo:
Bad mountain bike crash

The problem is that the video is an artifact not an idea. But when it comes to online activity we (as cyborgs) can spread videos and other media just as easy as we can as humans spreasd ideas.

Longevity: The video shoving a bike crash is not dependent of time, it’s funny years after the originale incident. The point is easy to remember (a guy is doing something difficylt and falls down in a horrible but funny crash).

Fecundidy: The video is online so it is easy to share. It’s short and don’t take to long to be viewed by the next person. Others will make videos of siliar accidents. It is something that happens often enough for it to be in mind, but rarly enough that people will find it special.

copying-fidelity: To tell the tale insted of the video is not so funny.

Henry jenkins writes in this text “if it dosn’t spread, it’s dead” abut seven traits of a meme that makes it a good meme.

1. humour

For some reason people falling and hurting thenself are funny and/or facinating.

2. provides different levels of engagement (i.e. you don’t have to get all the in-jokes to like it)

You don’t have to know the guy involved to get it, it is a guy on a binke that falls down. You don’t have to be able to do the simmilar sport to understand thins, but if you do. You probably think its more or less funny/facinating.

3. or is parody and requires cultural knowledge (so makes you feel good about your knowledge and getting the joke)

Everybody falls sometimes. The gut did it in style. You as a non practitioner of the sport, will probably not fall as often or as bad.

4. makes you want to find more info, so you engage your network to do so – search for origins, what it really means, who made it, etc

Is it fake? I don’t care.

5. “gaps”, interactivity, i.e. you have to do something for it to work
Not really interactivity. you can just viewit over and over.

6. nostalgia and community
I don’t ride extreme bikes, but i ride ordinary bikes, and i don’t like to fall down. It’s not really connected to a spesific periode. The clothes are modern (post 1970) but not very spesific.

Problemet med sitatretten

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Reading for DIKULT204/303

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

In this class we got several text to read. I will write down notes on every article. First the notes on the Benjamintext. This text is very difficult to understand. Benjamin speaks of aura of an original. But it is difficult to understand wherther he thinks it is a bad thing if a thing looses it aura and becommes more acseccible. However in class we talk about this, and taking into account the periode of time and place Benjamin lived in, the conclution is that loosing the Aura is a bad thing.

The benjamin txt gives me an idea of what migth be the problem of the author i my case. She is very spesific about context, and worry about the poem in other contect loosing /something/. This something migth be the aura or authorithy of the original. A copy in a different contect migth compete with her original . Must think more about this.

Notes for the next video

Monday, September 7th, 2009

This is my notes on how to make the video, what things i need to have in it, and things i need to do. I feel i lack some theory. As well as time in the lab to work on the video (I can’t wait until things calms down a bit), but i can find videos at home, even if i can’t work them together. My problem is that i got two problems with the case both very intressting. i think i will persue both for now in hope that the better one get to crystalize and becomme clear.
